Mar 28, Bill Lalonde rated it liked it. I've never seen the show, but the book was more reasonable than I expected. Good advice about dealing with, or better yet preventing, problems by prioritizing communication. Nothing groundbreaking, but not a bad read even if you have perfect children. Saw the TV series.. As in the word of my mum's friend, when something's wrong with the child, you must first fix the parents!

I hope I got the chance to be one someday, and won't let my child down fingers crossed: Jun 29, Donna Goetter added it. Most of it worked. The problem was Mom and Dad not sticking to the rules. I loved the Marble or you could use colored rocks from any Michael's or art supply or maybe even at the pet shop. That seemed to work quite well. Sep 09, Stephanie rated it really liked it.

Great book about teaching kids from birth on up. Discusses importance of family rules, chores, and talking WITH you child, not at them.

I wish they would have had examples in the back for chore charts and family rules.

This is my sanity- it has given me such great tips on discipline and order now that I am mostly a single Mom with husband working so much. I always learn something new and practical I can use that day.

Jul 15, Kimberly Herrin rated it liked it. It was a good book and had good tips and why I don't use all the tips I try to use some. Everyone raises kids different and tips are always a big help where you are having trouble. Feb 04, Birdie rated it it was amazing. I loved this book.

It really helped us through some of the difficulties of parenthood. Obviously the House Rules and consistency are important, the book spends a lot of time stressing that. However, I would have liked to have seen a list of common house rules that people enlist, to get an idea of what all needs to be covered.

And the book does not address what to do when your child comes up with something new which would be against the rules and currently is not, and just special situations in general that will come up.

My primary problem with the book, however, is that it does not really address what to do when children argue with you. The book just suggests that children will follow the rules once they are consistent, because they do so at school mmm..

My child asked me this morning if he could take a toy in the car on the way to school, and I didn't want him to. I told him he could play with it after school, instead of saying no.

This wasn't good enough for him and he continually questioned my decision, and even argued with me as to why it should be okay to take this toy in the car.

This book will not really address what parents of strong-willed children should do in instances such as these, and it doesn't address how to handle the "but why, why, why.

Definitely be consistent, anyway. All in all, a good, helpful read. One person found this helpful. A Mom like me who loves to learn just not have the time of day to read all of that.

However, it is an awesome book and the stories are helpful. If I could re-write this book as an author, I'd have a tiny synopsis above each technique or skill. It's just overhwelming and I never read it. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase.

Great book. It contains practical strategies on how to raise a child. The end of the book has great suggestions on how to deal with situations involving your children. We watched every episode and learned a lot! Our kids have made huge improvements. This book is great because they can explain themselves more on the reasons why a child might be acting a certain way and how to handle different situations. It's great getting a different perspective and insight without having strangers come into our home.

As a Christmas gift from my grandmother, I was a little skeptical to read this, considering my tastes including a few scattered YA novels, crime novels, psychological thrillers and classic literature definitely varies from my grandmother's for obvious reasons.

But upon picking up this book as a short, light read before the New Year, I was very impressed and definitely shocked by what I read and how much I happened to enjoy it. The story centers around fearless police officer Miranda Randy Murdock, and the somewhat egotistical, bookish Clark Kent-like Quinn Gallagher, a handsome widower who runs a fantastic security company.

As far as storylines go, this one definitely takes a step back, and has its own definitive spark of originality that is not often seen in stories nowadays. When Quinn Gallagher's three year old daughter, Fiona, loses her nanny due to a possible terrorist threat on the company that comes complete with startling messages threatening to off his cherub-like but somewhat spoilt and bratty daughter, Randy is called in to go undercover as her babysitter and help track down the threat that could potentially bring harm to the Gallagher family.

Julie Miller has a style of writing which is original, unique, and has the incredible ability to make you unable to put the book down. I'm not a fan of very long novels, and I like something fresh to read when you don't feel like following a complicated storyline.

Julie Miller fulfilled on both counts for this book, with a novel that isn't too long but also not too short , and whilst it has a meaty storyline, it isn't so difficult you need to write down everything that happens so you don't get confused. Here you can see Quinn, Miranda, Fiona, and of course the best character of the book "Petwa".
