She sighed again. Alice had heard it all and heard it often. It was supposed to be a roaring success.
She had expected no less. Her family had expected no less. She was a beauty, after all, even quite fashionable with her blond hair and powder-blue eyes, and she also had the aristocratic bones that ran in her family.
See a Problem?
She was also the only daughter of Preston Locke, the 10th Duke of Norford. That alone should have had the proposals streaming in. And no one had doubted that she would outshine all the other debutantes that Season two years ago, herself included. So really, she could blame that disaster on herself. Amanda recalled wondering how her brother could be so dense just because Ophelia was a raving beauty! Ophelia was manipulative, a liar, and spiteful to boot.
Rafe did fall in love with Ophelia, he did marry her, and he did tame the shrew. There was nothing not to like about the Ophelia her brother had married. Now, at the beginning of her third Season in London, she was quite desperate.
Was the problem that simple? With her sister-in-law Ophelia hastening the romance along by arranging riding lessons, Amanda is soon taking instruction from infuriating Devin Baldwin. Astonishingly, in her daily encounters with Devin—who treats her as an ordinary young woman, not a prize to be won at the marriage mart—Amanda experiences passion for the first time. Now, her search for a match takes her in an unexpected direction as she finds herself falling in love with Cupid himself.
She is the author of fifty-five previous national bestselling novels, many of which reached the 1 spot on the New York Times bestseller list. Lindsey lives in New Hampshire with her family.

Kalau kamu mengharapkan hot scenes, segera lupakan. Minim banget! Padahal JL loh: Amanda dan Devin-nya sama-sama keras kepala, sama-sama gak mau ngalah, sama-sama saling melemparkan godaan. Jadi menghibur ceritanya.
Overall, nice and sweet story.
Jun 19, Susan rated it really liked it Shelves: Good book. Amanda has begun her third Season and is still looking for a husband. She doesn't understand why she hasn't immediately fallen in love with someone. When she encounters Devin at a ball, she takes an instant dislike to him, especially when he starts giving her unwanted advice.
Devin has set up a new horsebreeding farm near London and has started attending events in order to make more contacts for his business.
He has fallen into matchmaking because of his ability to match up people he Good book. He has fallen into matchmaking because of his ability to match up people he thinks would suit outside of the usual methods.
He is also very blunt and doesn't dress things up in pretty words. When Amanda sets her sights on a gentleman who is horse mad, she finds she needs to learn to ride in a hurry.
Even though she doesn't like him, she starts riding lessons with Devin. Over the weeks of her lessons, she finds herself losing her antagonism to Devin and enjoying his company. She finds him very easy to talk to, and his patience in getting her over her fear of riding was just what she needed. The only thing she can't understand is why she keeps thinking about him instead of the man she had picked out.
Devin finds Amanda incredibly attractive and not a little frustrating.
But he is a bastard and knows that there is no way he could ever win her for himself. He tells Amanda of his birth to scare her off from the attraction she feels and is stunned to find that it doesn't matter at all to her.
When she is attacked, he rescues her and while comforting her their passion takes over. When he tells her she must forget about him, she rides off with him chasing her and someone shoots at them.
Devin takes off to find out who is father is, for he feels that he is the one trying to kill him. The revelations that come out are very interesting and explain a lot of things that had been happening. I really liked the ending, and how Amanda's father and brother treat Devin. Overall, I really liked the book. The only problem I had with this one, was the frequent use of contractions such as "a'tall", "m'dear" and so on. It may be the way it sounded when they talked, but reading it was very distracting.

It just fell in my lap. But there's no luck about it, it's simple animal magnetism that makes for a great match.
A man and a women have got to want to rut, but after the rutting, they've got to have something in common or their happily ever after falls apart. He's not going to discuss desire with you. It hurt too much. Jun 04, Shirlene added it.
Devin Baldwin was 6 years old when he noticed a man coming into his home late at night. He didn't stick around during the daytime. Devin was curious and sat outside his mother's room one night and asked the man if he was his father. Shortly after that, his mother's brother came to take him away from his mother.
His mother promised to visit but it was 2 years later that he saw her again and it was at her funeral. He was almost 8 by then and he hated her for leaving him that way. He never learned Devin Baldwin was 6 years old when he noticed a man coming into his home late at night. He never learned who his father was and his uncle didn't know either. His father did pay for him to go to boarding school though.
Devin continued to think that the man who visited his mother was his father and grew to hate him. When he returned home after finishing school, his uncle gave him control of the horse farm he owned and his aunt and uncle moved to London.
His uncle suggested that Devin purchase some land outside London and live with them. Devin brought his right-hand man with him and began a ranch to breed race horses.
The other ranch bred mostly work horses and he owned that one and continued to run that as well. He was beginning to see a profit selling horses to rich families in London. To expand his clientele, Devin started attending a few of the balls being given by his wealthy clients.
Let Love Find You
One of those balls was attended by Amanda Locke. This was her third season and she was beginning to think she would end up an old maid. She desperately wanted a husband and was expecting to fall in love at first sight.
That hadn't happened yet. She asked family and friends a lot of questions and determined that she wasn't getting to know any of the guys because she was expecting love at first sight. It was suggested that she take time to get to know a person so that love might grow. This advice she obtained from her brother's wife, Ophelia, and from comments made by Devin. Devin had a side occupation and was known as 'Cupid'. He had decided to find a match for Amanda and one his best friend, Will's sister, Blythe.
Amanda met someone thought she might like and Devin told her that he was more interested in horses than anything else and that Amanda would have to learn to ride to prove to him that she was the one for him. She hired Devin to teach her to ride. She had fallen off a horse as a young girl and was afraid of riding again.
She fell on her first attempt to ride sidesaddle. Devin drank half a glass of whiskey and gave the rest to Amanda in order to relax her muscles. She had a knot in her calf and as he worked it out of her leg, he also kissed her.
It was the first time Amanda had been kissed and she enjoyed it. Devin would let their relationship go no further because she was the daughter of a duke and he was a bastard child. He couldn't seem to get her off his mind although he tried.
He also decided that Amanda would learn to ride astride because the sidesaddle was more complicated. Someone was causing trouble for Devin. Someone delivered bad hay to Devin's ranch. One horse did die and a few others had gotten sick. A couple of mares miscarried their foals. Later he was at the ranch when a friend was visiting and a shot hit the dirt in front of him. He and his hands tried and failed to catch whoever had made the shot.
Thankfully, no one was hit. Will had been beaten up over some money that he had borrowed to provide a dowry for Blythe. He was then stabbed and left for dead at Devin's ranch. Devin found him and got a doctor to help him. Devin went to see the guy who had ordered him beaten and was told that he had only beaten him, he hadn't had him stabbed.
He didn't do that sort of thing because if Will were to die, he wouldn't get his money back that Will had borrowed. Devin didn't believe him but paid back Will's money and told the guy to leave Will alone. Devin continued giving riding lessons to Amanda attended a birthday party outside of London for Amanda's brother, Raphael. Devin was there because Ophelia, Rafe's wife, had purchased a horse from Devin for Rafe's birthday. Amanda was at the ball in the house and went early to her room.
She found that she was disappointed that Devin was not showing more interest in her. She discovered that she was not interested in the two guys that she was thinking might be potential husbands. She was followed by Farrell Exter, another suitor who was trying to push on himself on her as a potential husband. He was a gambler and needed a rich wife.
He was determined to compromise Amanda to force her into marriage. Amanda didn't know how to get him out of her room with compromising herself and was happy to find out that Devin had followed Farrell. He hit Farrell, who was drunk and told him to leave quietly. He was not only to leave her room but to leave the house completely.
Devin ended up staying with Amanda in her room to calm her down. They ended up sleeping together. He left in the middle of the night and Amanda thought that things would change between them.
She discovered that Devin hadn't asked for her hand so she took her horse out. She thought her father had given her the horse but found out that Devin had purchased the horse for her.
She rode out and Devin followed her. Someone shot at them. Devin was determined to find out who was trying to hurt him now. He was convinced that it had something to do with his father. Devin confronted the guy that he thought was his father and found out that he had been visiting his mother and had truly been in love with her but he wasn't his father. He told Devin that he had been friends with his father at one time but after the way he treated Devin's mother, they became enemies.
He told Devin to figure out who it was that he knew that had his size and eye color. Devin questioned a few others, figured out who his father was and went to see him. They talked and his father figured out who was trying to kill Devin to inherit the holdings of his father. His father wouldn't leave his possessions to his other illegitimate son because of his gambling. He wouldn't tell Devin who that person was but told him that he would take care of the problem.
He called for his other son to come see him and the invite was accepted. Farrell Exter was thinking that his father was going to change his will to acknowledge him as his son. He found out that his father had purchased his debt and Farrell was now indebted to his own father. Farrell was happy until he discovered that his father had arranged to have Farrell arrested and put into debtor's prison. Will was paid visits by Amanda's father, brother, Aunt, sister-in-law and told that his illegitimacy was not a problem to them.
If Amanda loved him, they had no problem with the consequences surrounding his birth. He admitted to being in love with Amanda, as she was in love with him. They were soon wed. Will was happy with Blythe's choice for a husband and she was soon engaged.
Devin found a partner for Will and he was enthusiastic about his future wife. Devin found out that an older man who often visited him at his stables was really his grandfather.
His grandfather didn't know either and was soon told and happy to receive the news. Devin now had family of his own. Amanda, has gone two seasons without finding a husband, and even though she is beautiful, she is looking for something special and unique: However she wonders if she will ever find it, as does her family. Amanda is drawn toward a brute of a man, a horse breeder, who has recently started in the Ton's circles.
However he is too rude and blunt for her tastes, so she sets her sights on someone else who has a love for something that is her greatest fear: So Devin, is her instructor Amanda, has gone two seasons without finding a husband, and even though she is beautiful, she is looking for something special and unique: So Devin, is her instructor on overcoming her fear, but in the midst of it, at fierce attraction grows between Amanda and Devin, and before they realize it, they are both falling hard for each other I don't know what it is I feel at times it isn't even her.
I have read her previous books plenty of times I had a hard time really getting into the book. The story line was great, I really loved the layout of the plot and I liked the characters but it just didn't ring out to me as a fantastic romance as I know Johanna Lindsey can produce.

It may just be me since I haven't been reading a lot lately, however even though this book had some admirable qualities it was also lacking something vital: I am sorry to give it such a low rating Jun 09, Stephanie rated it really liked it Shelves: I received a copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
My Summary: Amanda Locke is looking for love - but after two Seasons of being on the market, she still hasn't managed to fall in love or snag a husband! When she meets Devin Baldwin, she dislikes him immediately. Unfortunately for her, he is soon hired by her parents to help her find a match. He does his job well, but before Amanda can secure her position in the life of Viscount Altone Disclaimer: He does his job well, but before Amanda can secure her position in the life of Viscount Altone, she must get over her fear of horse - and that's where Devin comes in.
As a horse breeder, he'll help Amanda get over her fear of horses and win her man My Thoughts: Another awesome romance read from Johanna Lindsey!
Amanda and Devin were really likable, and the plot was paced perfectly. I loved the inclusion of characters from her other books in this one - it really helped to tie the series together well but wasn't a necessity for understanding what was going on in the novel. This book was very easy to read, and you can really feel the chemistry between Amanda and Devin - it developed very realistically, which made me like it a lot more; don't you hate insta-love?
I know I do, so this was a refreshing change. Final Thoughts: I recommend this to anyone who is a fan of romance novels and anything to do with historical fiction. It's a great summer read, so check it out! May 12, Ingrid Bakewell rated it liked it. I think Johanna LIndsey is one of my favorite romance authors-- because I like her genre.
Her characters are also generally rather bodice-ripping. This book is an interesting divergence from what I've read of hers before. The genre is s England Lords and Ladies time period, and as usual, there's a cast of characters who clearly are intertwined through multiple others of her books.
This one is about Amanda Locke daughter of a duke who wants to find true love but is having trouble doing so.
What happened to the "oh I just can't stand the sexual energy between us that I have to tear your clothes off and damn the consequences" scenes!?!?!?! I wish there were a few more. But regardless, the writing is consistent with her others and I like her voice, style and plot flow.
So I'll call this a good one, but maybe not great, due to potentially necessary for time period dirth of sex. Nov 28, Sarah rated it liked it Shelves: I think this book has a great plot, for that I might recommend this book.Error rating book. Tapi karakter-karakternya masih ingat sih dan yang paling melekat adalah Raphael Locke dan Ophelia Reid: Devin takes off to find out who is father is, for he feels that he is the one trying to kill him.
Spending time together slowly draws them closer but both are still thinking about their goals: Amanda, the handsome horse mad lord and Devin, the matchmaking payment to expand his breeding stock. This was her third season and she was beginning to think she would end up an old maid.

Has anyone in London ever taken part in the coming-out season with less enthusiasm than Sabrina? The beginning of this book is awful and I can't believe an experienced novelist like Johanna Lindsey wrote it. She supposed she should have waited to dress for the evening until she had received confirmation that he was coming.
