Go make some beautiful music!

Here's how you do it… 1. Select a Beat. The first thing you'll be asked to do is select a wav file to slice. Make sure it's at least a 1 bar 1 pattern long beat. You can slice a file that's not a beat, but it won't work very well… 3.

Set the BeatSlicer Parameters. After you've selected the beat, you'll get the dialog box shown below.

First select the number of patterns bars you want the beat to span by clicking and dragging. If you want the beat sliced and imported directly into Fruity Loops, hit the check mark.

The editor has it's own help system to explain things. Store the Sliced Beat. Next, a dialog will ask you to select a directory to store the sliced up pieces of the original beat file.

The default is the Fruity Loops Sliced Beats directory. Save Changes to your Loop. This process drastically alters the current loop, so the next dialog asks you if you want to save it before continuing. To Merge or Not To Merge.

The complete guide to FL Studio 20: Step-by-step

Final question - do you want to merge the beat with the current project? If you say yes, one channel per sliced up beat will be added to the end of your channel list, and the beat will be inserted into the first few patterns of your song. Because of this, you should probably insert some blank patterns at the start of the song before you slice. You can do this with ctrl-shift-insert in either the Playlist or the Step Sequencer. You should also know that the BeatSlicer considers a bar to be 16 dots, regardless of how many dots you have per pattern.

So if your patterns are 32 dots wide and you select to merge with the current loop, selecting 1 bar in the dialog above will put the beat into the first half of the first pattern.

You might have noticed this option in the Import Menu Of course, it's not a perfect conversion - see the pop-up window for details about what parts of the song might not be converted properly. The playlist and pattern layout also needs some explaining. The first 32 patterns are TB 1. The next 32 are TB 2. Then you have 32 patterns for the TR and another 32 for the TR for a total of patterns. Of course most of these will probably be blank for any given song, so your song ends up pretty spread out, but it's all there if you hunt for it.

Export to Wav or MP3.

This option is available from the File menu. Whether you choose Wav or MP3, you will be asked to specify the name of the file and then the dialog below will appear.

There's a lot to choose from here, and we're not gonna go into it. If you want an explanation of every button, go to the on-line help under File Formats.

It's all there. If you want to just get your song rendered, leave the settings the way they are trust us - we picked the defaults for a reason! That looks complicated… 2.

Wav is a raw sound file format. Huge files, excellent sound quality expect to use about 10 MB per minute depending on Depth. Wav files are suitable for burning onto CD. MP3 is a compressed format.

Smaller files, but sound quality may be slightly compromised expect to use about 1 MB per minute depending on Bit Rate. The first is the Browser which contains all of the ingredients — samples, sounds, instruments, effects and so on — that you will use in your song. The second is the Channel Rack that contains Patterns of these beats and notes which, when put together, make the song arrangement.

These Patterns are arranged on the Playlist, the large central area of the GUI and one other DAW users will recognise as being where the song arrangement comes together. The difference is that this song arrangement is put together with individual Patterns, created in the Channel Rack, and these can exist on any track — they are not tied down to one track as in most DAWs.

Beat Patterns tend to be created in the Channel Rack using a traditional step sequencer — just highlight the beat you want to play as it cycles around. If you want to play melodies, you still use the Channel Rack but then employ the fourth important element, the Piano Roll, to play notes in traditionally across a virtual keyboard or draw then in as you might on a conventional DAW.

Finally, once the Patterns created in the Channel Rack are arranged on the Playlist, they can be mixed with the final element, the Mixer, which can be adjusted in size, track colour, you name it. The following workshop will show how these five main areas interact in a lot more detail so you can understand the FL Studio way and how you can quickly start making music.

When exporting, we want the absolute highest quality file we can print out. I generally recommend not printing bit float unless you will be doing further treatment to the track yourself — like if you are going to pull the file back into another DAW to do your own mastering for example.

Very few audio playback systems accept float and will either reject the file or convert it to a non-floating bit depth. Currently that number is When advertising your production on your sales page, I completely advise making a heavily compressed, pumped up, loud version of the instrumental. In order to get the vocals to blend well with the music, whoever is recording and mixing needs space in the record.

If the record is slammed, whether through compression, limiting or hard-clipping the master channel — there is no more room. In order to make the vocals work, the engineer will have to make concessions.

Once a beat is purchased, make an alternate version that is less compressed to help the process. Your name is going on this record and over the long term, everything that can help the success of the song benefits you!

The complete individual trackouts of each audio element. This one takes a bit of judgement. However, if you know that a badass engineer will be handling the mixdown, give us the versatility to make the record the best it can be.

With that selected, all the processing like EQ and compression you have on your sounds will be printed into the trackouts. So go make your music and let haters stand in the dark. You may find the note snaps to a place you didn't want it to go. It's a hardware synthesizer and sequencer specially built to replicate classic techno sounds like the TB, TR and TR Did you plug the controller into a power outlet?

The slice tool 9 slices objects into as many sections as you need. All of your audio is routed through the mixer, and can also be individualized to specific inserts. Now you can suck them directly into Fruity Loops and use them in your songs.
