Pete the Cat is a unique character, unlike any other cat you'll come across in children's literature. The narrator who introduces Pete and talks about him emphasizes how well Pete responds to life situations.

Pete the Cat is a laid-back wacky looking blue cat, whose motto seems to be, "It's all good.

Pete sings a cheerful song through every situation and everything always turns out fine because of his attitude. Young children find Pete the Cat's adventures both funny and reassuring.

It's a clever concept book that focuses on the numbers 1 to 4, subtraction and counting down. The illustrations prominently feature the numbers "1," "2," "3" and "4" and the words "one," "two," "three" and "four. With lots of different colors on every page, children will have fun identifying different colors and objects "Show me a red button.

However, while all of that is well and good, that's only one of the reasons I like the book so much.

Response to Two Professional Reviews: Both of the two reviews mentions how the illustrations appeals to the kids. This is a good book for Pete the Cat fans. I think this book is a good choice for teaching classic songs and help children learn rhyming.

Also it is interesting and Consideration of Instructional Application: Can be created into song and teach to children.

While teaching, educators can prompt students to create their own texts for the song. Richie's Picks: Pete the Cat's in the driver's seat on this bus.

It is a popular children's song, particularly among pre-teens, in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom and is often sung by children on bus trips to keep themselves amused. It has a very repetitive rhythm, making the song both easy for a large number of people to sing, as well as having the potential to infuriate adults as chorus after chorus drones on, in a manner similar to the song 99 Bottles of Beer. This is a book for preschoolers and kindergartners.

And while, back in the days when preschool was called nursery school and TVs were black and white and Tricky Dick was playing second-fiddle to Ike , they actually had busses pick us up at home and transport us to nursery school, that is generally not the case today.

So this book can actually serve as a great lesson to preschoolers about what to expect when they are old enough to board a school bus. There is one dog on the bus.

And so, when you put together a bunch of construction paper headbands with cat ears for all of your preschoolers to don in preparation for singing this song while turning the pages of the book, be sure to make one headband with doggie ears and let kids take turns on different days being the dog and doing a woofing solo when you reach "The dog on the bus goes woof woof woof" verse. I'd also recommend some natural, hypoallergenic makeup for drawing whiskers on kittens.

That dog is a total crack-up. The spread with the dog sitting next to two cats, clearly wondering how the heck he got stuck on THIS bus, is absolutely priceless. This is my stop. See ya.

But that's the point. They are designed to introduce traditional children's songs. Wheels on the Bus has a few extra verses where the cats on the bus shout "Let's Rock Out! The Wheels on the Bus" is appropriate for children ages 3 to 6. This book includes the traditional "The Wheels on the Bus" song that many children know and will recognize, but with the signature Pete the Cat characters and illustration style. The song lists different people and things on the bus, and is repetitive and easy to sing along to.

This book would be fun for young children, especially those who have not yet heard "The Wheels on the Bus. If you want the class to join you in singing, this book is very good for that. This can be used as a fun activity to dance or play a game to in the classroom such as freeze dance.

Also, you can lengthen the song by asking the children what else could be on the bus, and creating your own lyrics. Aug 24, Lacey Louwagie rated it really liked it Shelves: This is my first Pete the Cat book, and I know it's not representative since it's an adaptation of the Wheels on the Bus song rather than an original story. Still, it's tons of fun! The Wheels on the Bus is one of my favorite songs from childhood, and the rhythm it provides makes this a really fun readaloud even if my month-old baby did start crying halfway through -- I'll force this book on him again when he's older.

Also, you can't really go wrong with these droll illustrations, which serve This is my first Pete the Cat book, and I know it's not representative since it's an adaptation of the Wheels on the Bus song rather than an original story. Also, you can't really go wrong with these droll illustrations, which serve as a fun counterpoint to the actions you can do with your child at different points in the song.

The illustrations seem to tell a subversive story all their own that is completely disregarded in the text -- like, why is there a lone dog riding this bus full of cats? Is he a dog on the outside but a cat on the inside? I look forward to exploring more Pete the Cat! View 2 comments. Jan 12, Itty Bitty rated it it was amazing.

My thoughts: We love the Pete the cat books especially his books that are based off of children songs like this one.

We love that he adds his own twist to our favorite children songs and Itty Bitty likes it when it is sung to her. Itty bitty is 16 months old and sits through about half the book without moving to much therefore we do agree this book is probably best for kids a little older.

Sep 13, Sierra rated it it was amazing Shelves: Pete the cat is such a cool series that children really enjoy. This book is about the school bus and how the different parts on the bus work, such as the blinkers and the horn and motor. This story is also a book that can be read aloud as a song, which is very appealing to young children.

The book has bright colorful pictures that remind me of water color paintings and the cat always has the same expression on his face no matter what hes doing in the book, which makes the character recognizable Pete the cat is such a cool series that children really enjoy. You can also have then say what part comes next. By the time we park the car, Lola is convinced that Pete must live in the parking lot of her new school. Well, I have to agree that if Pete isn't a fan, you won't like this book.
