Ekadasi fasting in Karthika Masam is a common procedure in every household. People fast whole day and break their fast next day offering food and clothes to a Brahmin or Temple Priest. These deepams are called as Dwadasa deepams. One can see an amazing site as every house gleams vibrantly with lots of diyas.
Fasting on Karthika Pournami day is equivalent to fasting on Shiva Rathri. Devotee's fast whole day. They light a vatthula cotton wicks deepam to Lord Vishnu, have Darshan of the Moon and then only break their fast. The temple priest reads out the story and they are offered Vayanalu and swayampakalu.
Deepam's are kept on banana ribs or stem and are left in the lakes or canals.
With this festival, Karthika Masam officially comes to an end. Lord Shiva blessed us with a great boon as Karthika masa somavara vratham. One who performs with diligence would enjoy every worldly pleasure and even after death, he would reach Kailash. Reaching Kailasha means attaining salvation or shiva lokam or moksha.
It is observed in 'Shraavana Nakshatram' which usually comes on pournami day in Karthika Masam. Rudrabhishekam, abhishekamand Lighting lamps to Goddess Parvathi and Lord Shiva is highly auspicious and will free the devotee of all the sins and keep them happy and free them from all diseases.
Performing Rudrabhishekam on this day 11 times will take you straight to Kailasam. Another name for Lord Shiva is Someswara, who keeps the soma crescent Moon on his matted hair.
It is said in Hindu scriptures that Karthika Masam is a sin destroying month. Satya Narayana Swamy gives his divine blessings if we conduct this vratham during this month. It is one of the easiest and best ways to be near him. Lord Vishnu, the Bhagwan who is responsible for maintenance of our universe.
This vratham is always performed right after our wishes or desires get fulfilled. Morning or evening, any time is auspicious to perform this vratham.
He helps us achieve major achievements in life. People want to invite all near and dear ones and share their happiness with them.

It is of course very happy moment for family organizing it, but it is also auspicious to invite guests and feed them prasadam after the Pooja is finished. The story is the most important part in this vratham and a must to hear by one and all. It is a five day ritual which is observed in Karthika Krishna Paksha in the southern states, like Andhra and Telangana, and even Karnataka.
During these five days Lord Vishnu is worshipped and people fast and on the fifth day of Uttuvana Ekadasi, they break their fast and immediate next day they celebrate the Tulsi vivaham with Lord Vishnu. It is always advisable to eat some light food like fruit or milk during fasting. The process of observing Nattalu vratham is too fast whole day and eat only after moon comes out and stars are seen.
It is done almost all month of Karthika Masam.
On Karthika Pournami, the whole house is decorated with diyas. The rivers have received fresh water during the rainy season comprising of Shravan and Bhadrapada Months and have completely settled by the time Karthika Masam starts. All along the Aswayuja Masam, the rivers would absorb the energy from Moon and by bathing in the river during Karthika Masam one can absorb this energy from the river. Vanabhojanalu during Karthika Masam It is a common ritual that people would go out with families and friends to parks or nearby forests to have a dinner during the Karthika Masam or Karthika Month.
These are known as Vanabhojanalu. It is believed that performing Satyanarayana Vrata on Karthika Pournami would help them to free themselves from all the sins. They then eat after seeing the stars.

The process of observing Nattallu or Natta Vratam is to fast for the whole day and eat only after seeing the stars for the whole month of Kathika Masam. So only if this routine is followed for the complete month it is called as Natta Vratham or Nattalu.
Devotees generally go to Lord Siva or Lord Vishnu temple to pray them to give strength to do the puja for the whole month. This is the Day we start lighting Akasa Deepam. The Lamp you light either at the entrance of your house or at Siva or Vishnu temple Vidiya: 2nd day of karthika masam.
Brother should go to his sister's house on this auspicious day and eat the food cooked by her and bestow her with blessings and gifts Thadiya: 3rd day of the month. Good Day to do Thrilochana Guri Vratham.. It is said to be Nagula Chavithi in Andhra. Need to do archana for Lord Subramanya swamy. Shasti: 6th Day is Shasti.
Its good to do puja for Lord Vishnu in the evening and Night time. Dwadasi: 12th Day is Dwadasi, known as Khseerabdi Dwadasi. Lord Vishnu will wake up from his yoga nidra on this day.
Do Puja to Lord vishnu. Good to do Puja under Gooseberry tree or Tulsi plant. Trayodasi: 13th Day is Trayodasi, Good day to skip dinner. Do puja to Lord Varuna. Auspicious to light diya at Lord Siva or Vishnu temple. It brings a lot of good even if you see the deepa at the temple Bahula Padyami: 16th Day is Bahula Padyami. Not to eat stocked food and curd Vidiya: 17th Day is Vidiya.
Good day to do Vana Bhojanam. It is said that offering prayers to Lord Vishnu under Gooseberry tree and then having food there with relatives and friends will bring great benefits. Thadiya: 18th Day is Thadiya. Need to feed the animals, ants, birds etc Shasti: 21st day is Shasti.
Need to do Puja to Grama Devatha. Good to donate what ever you can depending on your status. Saptami: 22nd Day is Sapthami.He took a gigantic form hence they could not find the exact location.
