These are common enough that they arguably should have been included in the core rules; instead they have to be repeated across lots of books whenever they are mentioned again.

Rogue Trader Books.

Any other new features are species-specific and described along with the appropriate creature's stat block to avoid having to flick back and forth through the book during play. Chapter I: Beasts and Monsters This section describes fifteen varied creatures with which to harass your players' characters. Every entry is illustrated in full colour, includes a full stat block, and a detailed description. Very nicely, they each get a full two-page spread, so with the book open at a particular entry you have everything you need without having to turn over any pages.

They are, briefly described and listed in the book in alphabetical order: Clawed Fiend: a hulking brute of a beast, specialised in melee combat, that gets even more deadly when wounded.

Creeping Stalker: an ice world apex predator, lying hidden in ambush under the ice and snow to capture its prey.

Khymera: dangerous warp beasts that hunt in packs and can pass through walls; as pictured on the book's front cover. Killian's Bane: the Burnscour Wyrm, a huge armour-plated snake-like swamp-dwelling hunter that swallows its prey whole. Medusae: a hovering emotion-gathering parasite that attaches to a victim's neurological system and controls it. Mukaali: desert-dwelling pack animals that serve as superb mounts, transportation for cargo, and beasts of burden.

Razorwing: flocks of killer birds, with razor-sharp feathers, that strip living creatures and even eat their bones. Sand Tiger: a burrowing ambush predator that waits under the sand, drawing its victims quickly into a sinking pit. Shadowkith: once-humans that have descended into savage cannibals, mutated in their isolation on a backwater world.

Species X RK: a xenos race devolved into barbarism by a planetary environment that erodes higher thinking. Terrorax: a vicious armoured hunter that hides up in trees, ready to easily grab and whisk off any hapless victims.

Thornmaw: floating bony masses with hideous talons on tentacles that attack unsuspecting prey and rip them apart. Unquenched: desert-wandering undead human psykers driven to violently rip all moisture from other living beings.

Ur-Ghul: packs of humanoid creatures that can unerringly track their prey by scent before mercilessly killing them. Void Kraken: a true monster of the void, kilometres long, that eats spaceships which it catches in its vast tentacles.

The conceit of a piece of fiction introducing each monster actually worked nicely, as they present ways in which the creatures could be used in practice, both for the set-up and for a way the GM can narrate their presence.

I would have preferred a good clear adventure hook or two per creature; the fiction alone is a taste but lacks the nutritious benefits of a full meal.

Creatures Anathema has clearly spoiled me; the Dark Heresy books are absolutely dripping with story ideas. Still, The Koronus Bestiary does provide ideas, but it takes a little more work to extract them.

The chapter ends with a three-page section on using xenos creatures in adventures, and this is valuable stuff: providing generic adventure ideas for introducing creatures in general, which can then be tailored to the specifics of your campaign.

It's a good range of plot hooks that can be re-purposed as needed. Chapter II: Aliens of the Expanse And here we cover intelligent species that can be used as enemies, trading partners, or other NPC foil to the characters' goals.

The page count varies by race: 22 pages on the Eldar: a dying race of highly advanced, knowledgeable, and haughty space-elves. Name Type Affiliation Page No. Amazon Physical. Fantasy Flight Games Physical. Flesh Hound of Khorne. Screamer of Tzeentch.

Humanity may have settled untold worlds in the Koronus Expanse, but only the most audacious of Rogue Traders would dare claim that it asserts any true dominion over this lawless region of space. The eyes of a Razorwing are golden in colour and can:
