As a manager, you must coax ideas out of your staff and constantly push them to contribute. There are many valid reasons why people arent candid with one another in a work environment. Your job is to search for those reasons and then address them.

All are mechanisms of self- assessment that seek to uncover whats real. If there is more truth in the hallways than in meetings, you have a problem. Many managers feel that if they are not notied about problems before others are or if they are surprised in a meeting, then that is a sign of disrespect.
